I sat and watched the NN begging video just after it went up on Youtube and was left speechless. The balls on that geezer!
But all the way through it I just kept thinking to myself “I can’t wait to see what George has to say about this shitfuckery!”
Five videos in and I haven’t been disappointed!
Well done mate. Finger on the pulse/Revealing the truth and all that.

I just can’t understand it.
If you were to invest in any other business venture, be it Bar/Cafe/Brothel, you’d want to see all financial projections etc…
I seriously looked into opening my own arcade cafe a few years ago, but got completely put off by the expense and dangers of it all.
I really admire the few people that have managed to make a success of this kind of thing, like Retro Replay! Arcade, Gaming Lounge & Bar (Located in Castle Mdw, Norwich, NR1 3DD) but it’s fucking hard work.

But the one thing I wouldn’t do to make it even harder is open an ON DEMAND, Plant Based, Token Based, Dogtosser Based, Arcade Café – Right down the road from somewhere like Retro Replay! Arcade, Gaming Lounge & Bar (Located in Castle Mdw, Norwich, NR1 3DD).

I liked to mention that this “Griftcadia” campaign for the amount they are looking for, they do understand that Kickstarter take 10% of the total? If the hit the target bang on @25k, KS is remove 2.5k leaving 22.5k, so if they want that 25k on point it will need to do 28k actual. So I’m unsure if he or they is aware of this?

Her debt is £23k. The KS goal is £25k.
25k – 10% = £20.7k. Nearly enough to settle her debts.

My apologies I stupidly took 10% off 23k.

Interesting. Also worth noting that others are now starting to shill for them? What’s the deal here?

The circle jerk at work, is all.

As of today however, the campaign lost £900. Someone pulled out? Are people seeing sense?

It will be interesting to see if they start distancing themselves if it fails to make its Kickstarter?

This is losing momentum fast. It’s not going to make the total.

Crowd funding such a miniscule amount, won’t save these one.

A friend of mine launched a Retro Arcade some years ago, long before coavid and today’s electricity and food prices and soon discovered to his absolute horror the REAL costs involved.

The running costs on the venue alone, the maintance costs on old electronics and mechanisms in the machines themselves.

Opening a food venue in today’s environment?

Yeah, friends son tried that with a Pizza joint, electricity supplier renewed contract, now the place only opens at select hours, 3 days a week.

People are struggling to heat and light their own homes, are being warned about switching off vampire devices to save money.

Just how energy efficient are these ye oldie arcade cabinets Peter?

What’s your business plan for maintaining your food hygiene standards?

There’s simply far too much missing from the KS campaign to secure genuine investment.

If they’ve done their sums for the business, which i doubt, the amount being asked for, just won’t sustain the business for any real length of time.

The profit margins to sustain it as a viable business, simply aren’t there either..

OF NOSTALGIA NERD, A TALE TO BE TOLD,
A KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN, A STORY UNFOLD,
BARCADIA, A PLACE OF FUN AND PLAY,
BUT IS THIS CAMPAIGN A GRIFT FOR PAY?

ASHENS PROMOTING IT WITH A FROWN,
HIS HEART CLEARLY NOT IN THE TOWN,
BUT NOSTALGIA NERD PUSHES AHEAD,
AS HIS GIRLFRIEND INVESTS INSTEAD.

THE KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN IS A PLEA,
FOR GRIFTS IN RETURN OF CASH TO SEE,
BUT THE CONTRIBUTORS GET LITTLE IN KIND,
JUST MERCH, DISCOUNTS, AND ARCADE TOKENS TO FIND.

AND DOWN THE ROAD, ANOTHER ARCADE WAITS,
WITH BETTER OFFERS TO SATISFY THEIR CRAVES,
BUT NOSTALGIA NERD IS BLIND TO THE FACT,
HIS GRIFT-FILLED CAMPAIGN IS FAR FROM INTACT.

ASHENS JOINS IN BUT HIS HEART’S NOT THERE,
ASKED TO BE ON CAMERA, HE COULDN’T CARE,
FOR NOSTALGIA NERD, HIS CAMPAIGN IS A TEST,
WILL THE COMMUNITY FUND IT OR LET IT REST?

I’d love to see the income and expense accounts, as seeing the balance sheet only tells us part of the story. That said, based on the rudimentary financial statements filed with Companies House, Slice + Dice appears to have spent a ton of money on capital expenditure during the 2022 period. It also appears to be insolvent, on account of the liabilities being well in excess of assets.

I’m a Chartered Accountant with my own firm and have a number of hospitality clients (even a vegan food client), so have some useful expertise in this area. COVID obviously did impact 2020-2021 trading but converse to what you might think, actual profits in this sector for small businesses often went up due to one-off local council grants for rent & rates and restarts with the government also supporting wages via the job retention scheme. The Kickstarter does not provide a business plan or what the money is to be used for or details of nay investments already made. My hunch is that the lease on the premises was signed last year and they planned to self fund it (or get proper finance) but quickly realised they don’t have the resources to get the business up and running. With the macro economic situation and inflation (especially with utilities) and track record of those involved I would rate this as an extremely high risk venture and in all likelihood the money from the Kickstarter will be lost pretty quickly

They’ve acquired a decent amount of assets in 2022. Perhaps it’s bar and kitchen equipment?
But they also have a massive liability which I imagine is the borrowing for said kitchen & bar gear + normal business overheads.

So on the face of it, they’re not in a great position.

However, I’d you’re making a loss then your tax liabilities drop to zero. And in some cases, you can recoup previously paid tax.

It’s very hard to understand the real picture as everything is rolled up, for exactly that reason. There could be furlough credit and payments in there, rates discounts, all manner of things etc…

Headspace accountants may always play with a straight bat and it really is as bad as it seems.

You’ve nailed it again George, another fantastic video with some very uncomfortable questions being asked. And as usual,.the parties involved are nowhere in sight to answer them. Their heads are firmly in the sand, or perhaps deep in vegan lettuce burgers.

Yeah £25k
(Having different issues with video, plays fine on the iPhone but the bar doesn’t seem to move (not the alcohol bar after one too many whiskies, the time bar) but no matter. Interested to see where this ends up and if we could Kickstarter find George having the top tier £1000 party invite group 😉 ) I’ve lost track of my brackets so )) ) and ) just in case.

I’ve had the same issue (also on iPhone 14 Pro). Can we start a Kickstarter for George to get back on YouTube? (That’s how it works isn’t it?!)

Do you want to give me a shout either here or on Facebook and we’ll see if we can get to the bottom of it? Since we changed the player there’s been very few complaints so it would be useful to know what’s going on.

It’s playing but if I try to skip forward using the bar by a few minutes it only seems to go forward by a few seconds, then if I rewind back a bit it doesnt go back but continues where it was and then while playing the time doesn’t move at all. Tried it on this page and also in system browser (iPhone) but to no avail

Am I misremembering or did NN even mention the cafe in a video or two saying it was near the place they all rented out?

Playing the opposite of Devil’s Advocate here, but those are accounts to the company’s accounting year end Feb 2022, so a year old.

2021-2022 lockdowns etc., likely not a great year for this kind of business.

2022-2023 performance is anyone’s guess, though it seems like a large deficit to turn around in one year for this kind of business through trading alone.

No matter which way you slice (or dice) it, if you have to use crowdfunding as a source of acquiring funds to open an even more costly place for your supposed “successful” business, then it can’t be that successful and you must have brain worms to convince yourself otherwise.

Yep, don’t disagree – hence the “through trading alone”, cash injections via KS no doubt most welcome.

What an absolute horror show this continues to be. A bank would never fund this, you’re right, but if they did and it failed… guess what? They’d still owe on that loan. If it’s crowdfunded and shits the bed then no such responsibility exists. If I were investing in this I’d want to know sales projections, I’d want to know monthly upkeep costs, I’d want to see market research data showing me there’s a vested interest in such an establishment, the list goes on. I’d want to believe this whole thing isn’t just some elaborate means to pay off an existing debt in order to liquify assets and pour into another business, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out to be the case. I HOPE that’s not the case because it’d be painfully transparent and clear for everyone to see if it were…

As an aside George, I don’t know if others have reported it but I’m having some playback issues on videos when viewed on mobile. They work, but it very frequently stops and starts, often requiring me to refresh the page and manually catch up to where I was. Not sure if it’s the server host or the video player itself, probably the latter. Just wanted to bring it to your attention is all.

I’m getting random playback issues on PC (Chrome and Firefox). If a video refuses to play in Chrome when the problem randomly rears its head, then it’ll play in Firefox without issue and vice versa.

Is this video issue to do with bitrate? A chum just sent me this on Mastodon after I pointed people here – “George needs to do something about the size of his videos. Just tried to watch one and gave up due to the buffering. Sent it to yt-dlp instead – it’s over 1gb, for basically audio and a still image. Must be costing him a fortune in hosting.”
