Talking to Maya about Barcadia’s demise

I speak to a COMPLETELY IMPARTIAL outsider about the Barcadia situation. Oddly enough, she isn’t particularly impressed with what’s happened.

Okay to some extent NN is correct nothing wrong with failure, but when you continually fail you need to question is what you doing really for you? Any of it. Especially conning backers out of their money, and refusing to pay workers who stuck by this weasel shit stain. I wonder if they can go after Ashen’s as he name is attached to this project as well 🤔

People tried to advise NN, we know he frequents here so he could have cherry picked some of the good ideas that went around, but he didn’t. I think NN may fail alot but he never takes full responsibility for his actions, thinking he knows best. A good boss leads with the advice, a bad boss thinks he is always right.

Finally, keep up the good work George, I would love to hear what both you and code tapper have to say about all this.

Until pal productions goes under, I will go back to lerking.

Long live the bummers!

I never understand how these YouTubers can claim to be so busy. Especially people like Peter who dump out one zero-effort excuse for a video once a month or less.

There are many YouTubers who have families and full-time day jobs, yet still manage to find enough spare time to produce videos of better quality with greater frequency than Nostalgia Nerd.

Maybe it’s just not his calling. Nor is running a pub. Or a web design business. Or a payday loan broker. Or a being faithful partner…

Hate to say it, but his business life and his personal life bear uncanny parallels. He can’t hold down a relationship anymore than he can keep a viable business afloat. He’s got a kid from one failed relationship, has had an on-off (when it suits him) thing with Octavius for years, was in bed (literally and figuratively) with Sam, his also-business-partner for Barcadia until she dumped him, now he’s swanning around with someone called Marta who he posts oily messages about on social media saying she’s “the best human” and how amazing it is to have her in his life etc. No doubt she’ll get tired of him – or he of her – and that’ll be another busted flush. The guy has very serious commitment problems, with women and with his endless string of failed businesses.

Not sure about the mother of his children, but the others seem to be somewhat vulnerable. He’s a creep.

I wouldn’t leave him alone with my children, sister, mother or grandmother.

Aww damn, I was going to visit as I don’t live too far away, it was on my to do list just below contracting dysentry.

You could have done both at Arcadia! If it was still open

8-12 Prince of Wales Norwich is officially for sale as a freehold subject to vacant possession. So in other words that means you would be buying the building from scratch and not a leasehold to continue BARCADIA or any other failed business start up. So all these rumours of Limited Liability Companies set up at companies house to save or stall BARCADIA from closure or rebranding under new management are false.

The timing seems impossibly coincidental. Was he not paying the rent?
Surely his contract was for a longer term?

Well it was a limited liability company against debts, so its not like chasing a private tenant or social tenant for unpaid rent. Plus even the latter can do a surrender of contract agreement or take out a debt protection order. Peter had cleared out barcadia, its finished. Plus yeah I saw a ton of unopened mail through barcadias letterbox. Stereotypical of someone not facing financial responsibilities by ignoring them.

Wonder what the masterplan for Debug Media setting up there at the end of March was. Surely they’d have known that.

Such a shame. I was looking forward to going along to see my name permanently recorded on the whiteboard, enjoy some vegan fries and marshmallows, while sitting quietly with a pint and a good book by Octavius. Might even have brought along my Vega+ in case the arcade machines were all out of service/been reposessed. It was reassuring to know after a couple of beers and a belly-full of marshmallow that there were ample facilities both with urinals and without to take care of all my bodily functions. I guess my dream just isn’t going to be realised now.

He says that he “tried everything” no he did not
Did he try selling no vegan food – No
Did he try bringing in a bar manager who has experience in savings pubs – No
Did he try posting more on socials, rather than the odd post. He should have been posting multiple times per day, everyday with specials, offers, etc.

The worst worst thing is not paying the staff, I do not care who you are or what you need to do make sure all the staff are paid. He has tons of retro gear he should have listed some to pay wages. He new six months in it was not working, so their must have come a point where he was letting people work knowing full well he could not pay them. That is low, very very low

It took him 5 months to put on events, he thought people would just turn up in their droves. He eventually realised he had to offer something different once in a while.
No hot drinks, minimum £5 spend on tokens (nearly half way to the cost of Retro Replay).
No proper bands, just cheap mate’s rates musicians.
He admitted it was created primarily for his mates to hang out in. He needed to sell a lot of beer, that’s how pubs survive.

Wasn’t a good sign that before it opened he had Sam’s father in doing basic DIY work because he couldn’t/didn’t want to.

Disappointed the “Barcadia Diaries” don’t seem to have been made available to the public.

Retro Replay makes a lot of money, the market was there, Peter just couldn’t tap into it.
Don’t get me wrong, the owner of Retro Replay is a nasty piece of work. His family has effectively stolen my wife’s son from her.
That aside, he is a very wealthy man. Probably worth a million at 30 years of age. He knew Barcadia would fail.
