Nosferatu the Vampyre

An absolutely chilling rendition of the classic Herzog film crept onto the ZX Spectrum in 1986…

I loved Nosferatu back in the day – I played it to undeath, if you will. To avoid the bats, go down the stairs like you did in the video, but then keep underneath the balcony. Eventually, you should find a dining room with swords on the walls. Grab a sword and hack the bats to death. They shouldn’t respawn. Same with the spider crabs – stomp them into oblivion with your boots and they shouldn’t respawn, meaning you can then drop the boots.
I think I’m going to go back and play it this weekend!
EDIT: You need to have matches in your inventory to light the lamp. I can’t remember where they are, however (In the fire would make sense).
I seem to remember the matches were in the kitchens somewhere. Mind you, it’s been a long time…
I’m not sure I even found the kitchens! I think I played this in the past and got confused so didn’t really play it much. I’ll probably take another go at it, though, with your helpful comment along with the one from Unixant in mind. I just mainly thought it was time to make a video. After the power cut I had no internet until late last night so I just wanted to get something done in the downtime (as well as proof-reading and tinkering with the book and playing some minecraft).
I was wrong anyway, it’s somewhere up a ladder in the library.
It seems you can only have 1 item at a time, but I’ll try to find the matches and take them to a lamp, or maybe you can carry both, I’m not sure. I didn’t play this game much at all, I think the soundtrack really put me off to begin with and the obtuse playstyle of it. Usually I’d like things like that but some stuff about Nosferatu just put me off. I think I’ll have another go at it, though, with these hints that you’ve both provided.
